RALLY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION
Beginning at 12:00 noon, participants will take part in a Music Education Rally at the Department of Education. Organized by MENC: The National Association for Music Education, the rally aims to underscore that music is a crucial part of a comprehensive education and that budgets need to be increased starting at the national government level. 2009 participants included: Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Florence Henderson and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

NATIONAL ANTHEM PROJECT
The day will start with the annual National Anthem Project Event. Members of Congress, other honored guests and all participating groups will gather in DC to sing the Star-Spangled Banner. Past attendees include the President’s own Marine Corps Band, Taylor Swift, the Oak Ridge Boys, Cactus Cuties and delegates of Mrs. America.
SALUTE AMERICA CONCERT
For over two decades Salute America has been providing unprecedented performance opportunities for student groups. Performing ensembles will be scheduled to perform at the Lincoln Memorial or another of Washington’s historic memorials during this day. Groups should plan for a 25 minute concert. Following their performance, each group will be presented with a commemorative plaque.

DRUM CORPS INTERNATIONAL
The week of events will culminate with the kickoff of DCI’s summer season at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD. All participating groups will take part in the opening ceremony with the singing of the National Anthem on the field, accompanied by the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and premier members of the drum corps from around the country. Following the opening ceremony, sit back and enjoy the best Drum Corps in the World compete in “Marching Music’s
Major League.”
