Leave it to New Horizons to have the first look at the Disney String Basses. These instruments were unveiled at the Midwest Clinic and will be auctioned by the Grammy Foundation to benefit music education charities later this year. Disney is calling the project Art for Music, we call it a great idea!
Disney Youth Programs at the Walt Disney World Resort, in conjunction with the GRAMMY Foundation® and Conn-Selmer, Inc., will donate five unique hand-painted string basses for auction this year. The instruments were designed and painted by the world renowned Walt Disney Animation Studio artists who have created fully animated feature films since 1937.
These one-of-a-kind masterpieces were shown for the first time on December 17, 2009 at The Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The instruments will debut officially on February 4, 2010 at the GRAMMY Museum® in Los Angeles, CA. The instruments will then be displayed separately at music and art museums across the U.S.
Following the tour, the string basses will be auctioned by Julien's Auctions, with proceeds benefiting the music education programs of the GRAMMY Foundation, which works year-round to bring national attention to the value and impact of music and arts education. The Foundation will assist in the auction and will distribute funds to various school music programs around the U.S.
